About Us
Seat belts help protect lives in case of a car accident. Smoke alarms help people escape burning buildings before it is too late. Bandages help reduce the chance of infection while wounds heal.
While those are all helpful and necessary items in our lives, everybody would agree that it would be better if the car accidents never happened, if the fires never started, and if the injuries never occurred.
That's why the Child and Family Resource Council is here. We are a prevention-based organization, meaning that programs and services are provided to children and families before problems arise.
In other words, while other organizations focus on treating the effects of child abuse and neglect, we work to stop abuse and neglect from ever happening
To do this, we provide a variety of innovative, client-centered programs and services throughout Kent County. Combined with highly skilled and dedicated staff, these programs and services provide a comprehensive approach to child abuse and neglect prevention:
- Community Education: Provides community trainings and information about subjects like mandated reporting, Shaken Baby Syndrome prevention, and child abuse and neglect prevention.
- Connections: Provides critical information about child development to parents of children 0-5.
- Encouraging Family Foundations: Provides life-skills and parenting-skills classes to unmarried parents of children.
- Family Resource Guide: A comprehensive guide of programs and services for children and families in Kent County.
- Healthy Start: Provides support, information, and resources to first-time parents.
- RAVE (Resources Against Violent Encounters): Provides critical information to teens 12-18 years old about developing healthy relationships and preventing violence.
In addition, we work with local community leaders, organizations, and politicians to develop a comprehensive response to child abuse and neglect and raise awareness.
